As public services become increasingly reliant on technology, local authorities face two key challenges. In addition to demonstrating the business value of investing in new technology, local councils are under growing pressure to provide round-the-clock IT availability to support public services outside of traditional office hours.

To help meet these objectives, South Lanarkshire Council has out-tasked the entire lifecycle of its 5,000 desktops and laptops to Computacenter Services. Under the £12 million contract, Computacenter Services has introduced a service improvement programme based on ITIL standards.

As a result of the partnership, the local authority expects to achieve cost avoidance savings of up to 15 per cent. South Lanarkshire Council has also increased desktop availability, helping to improve overall efficiency in the delivery of the council’s services.
