Computacenter opens Tier IV datacenter for managed services
09 November 2009
Organisations will have access to a certified Tier IV datacenter in Europe for the first time. Tier IV is the highest level of datacenter classification awarded by the Uptime Institute – the body for datacenter certification – and signifies fault-tolerant design topology.
The design and build of the Computacenter facility, which has been undertaken by datacenter facilities specialist Infinity to Computacenter’s requirements, received its formal Tier IV design certification from the Uptime Institute on 25 August 2009.
Simon Walsh, Managing Director of Computacenter, commented: “Our datacenter is a unique facility that will provide customers with a Tier IV service at a highly competitive price point. By running their systems in our Tier IV datacenter, organisations can free up valuable space, realise significant cost savings and ensure high levels of resilience and security while providing a platform for growth.”
Located inside the M25 corridor, the facility is Europe’s first accredited Tier IV datacenter. It has been designed to minimise energy consumption with a contained cold aisle approach, efficient heat exchange and power usage monitored at a rack level.
Martin Lynch, CEO of Infinity commented: “We are delighted to be delivering this new facility for Computacenter. Going forward we believe that customers will become increasingly discerning, not only about the capabilities of their providers, but also about the facilities where their mission-critical applications are hosted and operated. The datacenter will provide organisations with a robust facility for hosting, monitoring and managing their most critical business applications and data.”
Julian Kudritzki, Vice President of the Uptime Institute, commented: “Computacenter and Infinity have established themselves as leaders in the European market with this world class facility. Our Tier IV Design Certification of this datacenter allows those customers requiring the highest levels of availability to rest assured that their datacenter services supplier can deliver what they need.”
The facility will strengthen Computacenter’s existing datacenter investments, which already provide a complete range of environments across tier ratings, locations, service levels and price models.
“We are seeing increased demand from customers for datacenter-related managed services,” commented Walsh. “The new facility will enable customers to select a variety of tier ratings depending on the criticality of individual systems and their budget.”
The datacenter will begin serving customers from January 2010, after undergoing extensive performance testing.
